With the opening riffs of "The Construct" from their debut EP PATHS, Mountains Became Machines drag your attention back into the realm of excitement. But these opening guitar battles do not even hint at what is to follow. With three tracks split over 31 minutes this concept piece picks you out of the doldrums before taking you on a journey through various musical styles and emotions.

After the start "The Contruct" moves into a more post-rock vibe with singing that is not to dissimilar to Jesu or Mogwai. "The Truth" moves gently along before introducing some feisty riffs, deep growls and hurtling guitars like Red Sparowes dulling with Isis in a battle of the genres. "The Search (And Arrival)" completes the quest to get you back to feeling alive with more meandering guitar and pounding bass. This band is for those who like their metal ambient and experimental with a lot of progression. 31 minutes of music with never a dull moment. With PATHS, Mountains Became Machines have not reinvented the wheel but have built a super car instead of a family saloon.

Persönliche Meinung:
Die vier Jungs haben sich so ziemlich in allen Richtungen der Post-Rock Familie ein Stück stibitzt. Damit erfinden sie das Genre zwar nicht neu, sie schaffen es aber durch Abstandnahme vom padrak'schen "geklimper, Gitarrenwand, geklimper"-Schema keine Langeweile aufkommen zu lassen. Wer auf der Suche nach ein bisschen abwechslungsreichem Post-Irgendwas ist, sollte hier gerne mal reinhören. Mountains became Machines schaffen hier auf einer 30 Minuten EP, was andere ein ganzes Album lang versuchen.

nachdem mir von malde zugesichert wurde das hier kein schriller männergesang meine fensterscheiben klirren lässt hänge ich meinen kopf auch mal in die badewanne dieser musik...um in sinnlosen metaphern zu sprechen..
