Blackrain - Innocent Rosie EP (2008)

Die "New Wave of Swedish Sleaze" erzielt so langsam auch in anderen Teilen unseres Kontinents ihre Wirkung. Nachdem der Rest Skandinaviens und große Teile Südeuropas bereits vom Sleaze - und Glamfieber angesteckt worden sind, trifft es mit Frankreich nun ein Land das für mich bisher in Sachen Sleaze und Glam völlig unbeleckt gewesen ist.

Die 2002 gegründeten Blackrain frönten dabei zum Start ihrer Karriere eher den schwermetallischen Klängen. Ihr selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum enthielt z.B. so vielsagende Songnamen wie "Kill 'em All", "Gods of Metal" oder "No Life til' Metal". Netter Euro-Powermetal mit leichten W.A.S.P. Anleihen, ganz viel Doublebass und Texten die Manowar alle Ehre machen würden. Konnte man hören, war aber halt nichts besonderes.

Jetzt, 2 Jahre später, erscheint mit der "Innocent Rosie" EP also das nächste musikalische Lebenszeichen der Band. Und das, meine lieben Leser, haut mich vollkommen aus den Latschen. Die Jungs sahen ja bereits vor ihrer musikalischen Kurskorrektur aus wie waschechte Sleazer, aber ab sofort gehts auch in ihren Songs in die "sleazy & dirty" Richtung!

"Innocent Rosie" ist eine arschgeile eingängige Sleazehymne wie sie im Buche steht. Frontmann Swan klingt hier wie eine Mischung aus einem jungen Axl Rose, Stephen Pearcy (Ratt) und Cinderella Frontmann Tom Keifer. Das flotte "Rock Your City" weckt Erinnerungen an Bands wie den Dangerous Toys und das abschließende "Nasty" hätte sich verdammt gut auf der letzten Crashdiet gemacht. Soundtechnisch veredelt wurde die EP von Chris Laney, seines Zeichens Gitarrist bei Zan Clan, und bereits für die Produktionen der letzten Alben von Crazy Lixx, Candlemass und den Glorious Bankrobbers verantwortlich.

"Innocent Rosie" ist der ideale Vorbote für das, hoffentlich noch 2008 erscheinende, nächste Studioalbum "License to Thrill". Wenn der Longplayer genauso gut wird wie die EP, prophezeie ich hier an dieser Stelle schon mal einen richtigen Sleazekracher.

"License To Thrill" Review von Sleazeroxx.com:

While most of the newer glam and sleaze bands come from Sweden, Blackrain hails from France. Maybe that simple fact gives them a certain edge that many modern sleaze metal bands unfortunately lack - ferocity.
The "hey hey ho" vocals at the beginning of "Rock Your City" might lead you to the wrong conclusion that this is just another over-produced melodic rock CD, but it soon turns into a full-blown heavy metal head-banging experience and it doesn't let go. The next song "Innocent Rosie" is, in my opinion, the best track on the album and it kicks some major ass with its great chorus. What sets this band apart from other modern glam bands, ones that are heavily influenced by Crashdiet, is their singer Swan. His pipes could rival the top names in the business, and he CAN use them.
Suffice to say, Blackrain continue to rock throughout License To Thrill with great tunes like "N.A.S.T.Y", "True Girls Are Sixteen" and "Rockstars Don't Go To Jail", a tune whose title I found both very true and very funny. There is one ballad on the record, "No Forever", but it ain't no sappy power-pop soap opera of emotions. It is more of a mellower rocker, a really heavy ballad, and it fits perfectly with the rest of the album.
So, what's left to be said? Blackrain are like a breath of fresh air in today's music scene. I'll keep my fingers crossed hoping that they make it big, because they deserve it.
