Hallo, bin mal hier so augenmäßig über die Themen dieses Boards herübergeflogen.
Dachte ich stelle mal deutschsprachigen "core" ob metal oder nicht zur Disskussion.
Es gibts da zwei Bands die da natürlich sehr stark, warscheinlich auf Grund des momentanigen Hypes heraus stechen.

Da hat sich jemand aber eine opulente Schaffenspause gegönnt! Schlappe zehn Jahre nach dem letzten Output From Behind The Light legen die Düsterheimer von Wallachia endlich ihr zweites Album dem hungrigen Publikum zum Konsum vor. Aber das Warten hat sich durchaus gelohnt.

Wallachia (nein, das hat nix mit einem kastrierten Hengst zu tun) steht für symphonischen Black Metal von epischen Ausmaßen, zumindest meistens. Denn der Opener "Self-Inflicted Stigmata" überrascht anfangs dann doch mit astreiner Death Metal-Schlagseite, da holzt sich die Gruppe um Mastermind Lars Stavdal ganz schön deftig durch die Walachei (harr, harr, harr!). Danach aber wird der Todeshammer eher spärlich, wenn auch immer noch leicht spürbar eingesetzt, das Hauptaugenmerk liegt dann auf keyboardunterstütztem Schwarzmetall, wobei das Tasteninstrument aber nicht allzu dominierend verwendet wird, sondern primär unterstützend wirkt. Das ist auch gut so, denn dadurch ergibt sich Black Metal, der sowohl grandios als auch heftig und düster wirkt.

Diese verschiedenen Facetten des Bandsounds führen dazu, dass das Album nie eindimensional oder gar langweilig wird. Ein schönes Beispiel dafür ist "Kamikaze Christians", welches am Anfang dahin brettert wie nichts Gutes, um am Ende in einer wunderschönen, fast schon melancholischen Stimmung auszuklingen. Mit dem Rauswerfer "The Wreckage Of Innocence" hat sich dann sogar ein Folk Metal-Stück auf der CD eingefunden, das sich trotz seiner Andersartigkeit nahtlos in das Gefüge des Tonträgers einfügt. Absolut gelungenes Songwriting!

Technisch geht das Gebotene durchaus in Ordnung. Solide instrumentale Handwerkskunst wird auf weiten Strecken geboten, alles brauchbar ohne Ausfälle. Die ohrenscheinlich verfremdete Stimme von Meister Stavdal geht sogar positiv als Alleinstellungsmerkmal durch. Auch das Coverartwork weiß zu gefallen, vor allem, weil es die Vielschichtigkeit des Werkes betont. Dafür finde ich die Produktion des Werkes recht gewöhnungsbedürftig, denn aus dem Tieftonbereich fehlt mir da einfach der Druck, was das ganze Album recht scharf klingen lässt. Ist vielleicht sogar so gewollt, aber für meinen Geschmack klingt die Stehtrommel dadurch zu scheppernd.

Ist aber eher Gewöhnungssache und führt zusammen mit der für dieses Genre und die lange Auszeit recht dürftigen Spielzeit zu einer Abwertung um einen Punkt. Ansonsten ist die Scheiblette uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen.

In addition to a remarkable sound, the band forethought the aesthetics by having the album's cover artwork designed by Mark Wilkinson (Iron Maiden, Marillion, Judas Priest).

Game of Fools is a harmonious synthesis of the direct Lady Luck and the more venturesome styling of Green Dollar Colour. This new opus states a matured sound revealing the true energy carried by the band, an alchemy that is strengthened by their touring experience, fortified by their musical convictions, and reinforced by an unchanged line up from day one.
