Nachdem der Herr Con ab und zu mal reinschaut, wollte ich gerne wissen, was denn das "bald" vom 15.01.09 (Gästebuch HP) mittlerweile bedeutet?

Es soll einige Leute geben, die "Metal Sludge" langsam nicht mehr hören können und unbedingt etwas Neues auf die Ohren wollen.

It”™s hard to overstate the ferocity of this album, with its pummelling slabs of distorted sound, and searing, slicing leads. A big, rumbling bass presence counterbalances the potential shrillness of the guitars, but the merciless percussion and Woundz”™s hoarse, manic howl ramp up the intensity and wicked, savage energy. The title track gives the earliest intimations of Skaldic Curse”™s rather progressive, modern feel, being packed with the kind of nimble fretboard twists and squeals that one would expect of a guitarist of Scapula”™s pedigree. The track makes effective use of both an unexpectedly clean and clear break, and a doomy slowdown near the end to overcome the perils of long structuring with ease, whilst a warm, soaring solo reminiscent of latter-day Shining adds a vibrant variety of tone.

"Genocide Storm" is another stand-out, this time boasting a more classic Nordic feel, screeching, sharp and grim, adorned with a remarkable, Attila-like vocal turn from Woundz. Due to the length of their tracks, Skaldic Curse work well with gradual, clever evolutions of sound, and this track seems to discover sick new energy with every tortured turn. "Carcinogen", by contrast, is rather grand and proud, but is typical of the album as a whole in that it makes great use of challenging discordance. In their masterful control of different layers, and their ability to switch gear at the drop of a hat, Skaldic Curse elevate relentlessness and aggression into an art form, shaping knife-edge chaos into calculated, challenging sophistication.

"World Suicide Machine" seizes the most vital aspects of classic and modern black metal, and mixes them up with a progressive, distinctly British twist. It reminded me in turns of old Satyricon, Keep of Kalessin, Shining and Mayhem, but more in spirit and bite than in easily defined genre. Skaldic Curse have created something impressively creative here, a puzzle which brings pleasure with each subsequent assault. It”™s an extremely strong second statement, confident and hard-hitting, and should signal a new phase in the band”™s career.

Zitat:DELAIN ist eine Gothic-/Symhonic-Metal-Band, die im Jahr 2006 von Ex-Within Tempation Keyboarder Martijn Westerholt gegründet wurde. Mit "Lucidity" wurde bereits ein beachtliches Debüt-Werk eingespielt. Nachdem Westerholt, durch eine schwere Krankheit belastet, bei WITHIN TEMPTATION frühzeitig die Keys verlassen musste und damit die wirkliche Erfolgsgeschichte der niederländischen Band nicht miterleben konnte, stellt dieses Album so etwas wie ein Comeback dar.

Was anfangs nur als kurzes Intermezzo-Projekt gedacht war, entwickelte sich letztendlich, durch den steigenden und gleichzeitig auch unerwarteten Erfolg, zu einem stabilen Line-up.

Und genau diese Tatasche tut der neuen Platte gut. Auch wenn der All-Star-Charakter des Erstlings einen guten Eindruck machte, wirkt "April Rain" kompakter und komplexer. Wie aus einem Guss gespielt!

Die talentierte Charlotte Wessels übernimmt dieses Mal die Vocals beinahe im Alleingang, denn nur auf "Control The Storm" und "Nothing Left" ist Marco Hietala von NIGHTWISH zu hören. Bis auf ein paar vereinzelte, ganz kurze weitere Einlagen bestimmt Wessels Stimme das Gesamtgeschehen. Für die fette Produktion verantwortlich zeigen sich Oliver Philipps, Jacob Hansen und Westerholt persönlich und natürlich wird auch auf dieser Platte der typische Breitwand-Sound aufgeboten, der der Musik aber gut steht!

Sei es der eingängige Titeltrack, dessen Melodie sich sofort im Gehörgang festsetzt, das balladeske "On The Other Side", das (mein Lieblings-Titel auf der Platte) epische "Go Away" oder das eben schon erwähnte, NIGHTWISH-ähnliche, "Control The Storm"; hier ist für jeden etwas dabei...

Natürlich haben DELAIN das Rad nicht neu erfunden und einige Parallelen zu Genre-Kollegen sind schon zu erkennen, doch mit "April Rain" ist ihnen etwas gelungen, das nur wenigen Bands gelingt: ein Album, das eigentlich durchwegs überzeugt. Was will man mehr? Eigentlich nichts. Außer sich DELAIN live auf den Bühnen Europas anzusehen.

"April Rain" gehört mit Sicherheit zu den überzeugendsten Releases im Genre des symphonischen Metals. Die Melodien gehen ins Ohr, der Gesang sitzt hundertprozentig. Für Breitwand-Zocker ist dieses Album auf alle Fälle bedenkenlos zu empfehlen.

If your brain runs in a complex manner, you could figure that by combining the city and date in the album title, it would equal Bonnaroo, but myself having a hamster brain, I didn”™t put two and two together. It wasn”™t until after the first track “Vertebrae”, when upon hearing the crowd cheer, I knew this was live. Praxis”™s music is almost too complex to be performed in person. The lineup that entertained the sun-baked in the fields of middle America was Buckethead, Brain, Bernie Worrell and Laswell. Okay, close your mouth and take a breath or you”™ll be hyperventilating before everyone gets through their solo.

Knowing even brief bits about these musicians”™ histories gives you a glimpse of what you”™ll get here. The behemoth is formed from scorching guitars, running bass, time-piece drumming and funk keyboards. In the hot Tennessee sun of 2004, a three hundred foot robot indeed did “the robot”, when the sound pulsing through its units wasn”™t shredding the air and verifiably frying its circuits. Praxis is a collective of music”™s finest, but free reign and an ability to draw from each others”™ diverse backgrounds make them a true monster. Tennessee 2004 is what happens when you let the beast outside and give him a stage to play on. Scintillating.
