1980 is a new band that shows obvious influences in, among many other bands, 'Meshuggah' and 'Cynic' (one of the songs is named 'Meshuggreich'). Still, the music isn't as predictable as one could think. Yes, there are strange riffs like you could find in any 'Meshuggah' album, and there is the fusion influence of 'Cynic' of death and jazz, but still, they managed to have their own sound.
Other genre that came to my mind while hearing them is post-rock, not only because the band is instrumental, but because of the soundscapes in the music, specially in the last song. Even though, the songs and the album are short, so you don't have to wait five minutes in each song until it reaches its climax. Instead, we have atmospheric, instrumental, and, believe me, catchy, short songs.
Fans of 'Meshuggah' may like this, but don't expect their heaviness. In fact, this album is quite relaxed, even though it has some metal riffs here and there. Also remember: even if music is complex, with polyrhythmic riffs and without vocals nor structure, the music is still quite easy to listen to, so don't be afraid of it. Fans of 'Cynic', post-rock and jazz fusion will also enjoy this album. A very nice breath of fresh air that, again, comes from France.
And don't forget to listen it until the last second, specially if you like strange and crazy music.

Ok, this is not the right way to start a review, but I'll be straight forward. This release is the shit! One of the best albums this country has ever put out! SLAVEBREED have been around for some time now, but this is their first full length album. “Pain Syndicate” is the bomb in your car, the knife across your skin, the rapist in your bedroom. Ultra groovy grind/death metal with two screaming beasts holding microphones. The songs have simple, yet amazing ideas and riffs. They may be short, but they are essential and straight to the point. Once you put this piece of art into the cd drive everything ends. All your questions to why extreme music hasn't been walking on the right path are answered. These guys play with surgeon attitude and skills, performing top quality material for our pleasure. The blending of Napalm Death, Ingrowing, Dying Fetus and the likes with their own personal style leaves no doubts. This is extreme metal the way it should sound. Modern, yet with old school influences. Extreme, yet catchy. SLAVEBREED manage to exceed and stand out from the masses. Fans of modern stuff like Despised Icon will find their new love in songs like “Youth Fabric” and “Scorn”. Brutality, musicianship and extremity at their very finest. The album”™s artwork is done by the almighty and gives an extra sick touch to “Pain Syndicate”. This may be one of the finest album's that saw the light of the day this year in my opinion. All an extreme listener craves for is in here. I really hope their work will be appreciated because it certainly deserves it.
